The Anne Lamott Story

The Thomas Merton Community is very fond of St. Elizabeth Seton School. So, members of the community decided to do something special for the school. One member of our community, Fr. Tim Meier, has a friend whose name is Ann Lamott. Anne Lamott is a very famous writer. She is funny and wise and lots of people enjoy her books.

When Fr. Tim found out that we wanted to do something for the school, he invited his friend Anne Lamott to come to Palo Alto to talk about her life and her books. We were sure that people would pay to listen to her and we could give the money we would collect to St. Elizabeth Seton School.

Ms. Lamott agreed to come for free and we all became very excited about her visit.

The Children of the school made a beautiful poster to welcome our special guest.

On the day of the event, over two hundred and fifty people came.

Mary Coady, head of the committee that sponsored Ms. Lamott's visit, introduced Fr. Tim.

Fr. Tim introduced his friend Anne Lamott to the audience.

Ms. Lamott spoke. She was very wise and funny.

She answered questions and signed her books for people.

Everybody was happy and very thankful that Anne Lamott came to visit on January 11, 2004. The result is that the Thomas Merton Center and St. Elizabeth Seton School has a very special new friend.
